As one of  Germany′s largest insurance organizations, The Continentale offers its 4.6 million policyholders – both private and corporate clients – insurance protection from a single source.  The Continentale provides a wide variety of protection to its customers.  Policies offered range from Health to Automobile and  Life insurance.  With this great variability in product offerings, comes a great variety and volume of policy and claims related documentation which must be accurately processed.

In order to efficiently manage their large volumes of paper-based transactions, including: invoices, claims, and all manner of supporting documentation, The Continentale has chosen recognition technology from Paradatec. The unique and highly sophisticated Paradatec classification and extraction product, PROSAR-AIDA, is an integral part of IBM′s "Insurance Office of the Future" solution offering.

As a Paradatec partner, IBM was chosen to begin this document classification, separation and data extraction project on August 12, 2008.  The project is currently being implemented and live production will begin in the Spring of 2009.

Document classification, separation, and data extraction will be performed on a variety of identified unstructured document types.  Among those document types are various healthcare-related documents.  PROSAR-AIDA provides several specialized modules which are focused specifically on healthcare-related documents and will be incorporated at The Continentale.  These modules include features such as an ability to interpret and capture diagnostic codes (ICD-10), and pharmaceutical codes from healthcare billing documents using a standardized database catalog as a reference.

Extremely accurate and efficiently captured data from these processes will be used to populate The Continentale′s ERP databases.  As production proceeds, statistics gathered will be used to further streamline the processes with an ultimate goal of lowered costs and better service to The Continentale and their policyholders.
